Carnivores

By Kat Seidemann

The rats creep out from dusty corners
aaaato gnaw upon my heart
left unkempt upon the floor
when it fell from my sleeve
An unfortunate place to wear it
aaaabut I’m no good at secrets

Limbs heavy with ennui
Eyes captivated by this sight
aaaaas I always am
when larger carnivores
make my heart their game

I should fetch it back
but those gluttonous rats
enjoy my heart
so much more than I
aaaaever have
