Evan Louro-Reyes, We Are Incompatible

You told me once that I was insane,

and you knew this because orange is my favorite color,

which you said is the color of insanity and, well,

maybe it is.

It took the rest of the day for me to ask your favorite color,

and you said green.

“Green,” you said.

I remember how you blushed then,

your pale cheeks bruising pink,

and the little laugh before you said,

“which means you’re more inclined in a sexual way.”

In that moment I liked your laugh

and your rosy flush as you felt embarrassed.

Right then I hoped it wouldn’t be the last time

we laughed together.
