Kelsey Nicholls, Borrowed Boots

Hold and let it slip away,
one silver smoking bullet at a time,
like your fallen to the left.
I’m half a world away                                                  and three days flight
from sanity.

Status, hiatus, I have no control.
Halted prematurely, my blackened addiction
Bloodsweat,                                                     tears; and sand the cause.

Give me a chance to
take
it
all

back.

Not sign away this fragile soul into keeping
of the death dealers, my brothers.
Let me take                                                       the other road.

Kiss away this bad dream and forgo
this path that’s dragging me under.

Pull on the uniform like borrowed boots,

and hit the streets once again.
